About us

The Institute is named Sanyasa because this word seems to be the closest equivalent of Consecrated life in the Indian traditions. But the Institute should not be misunderstood as an Ashram for those searching for a time of prayer, meditation and solitude. Contextualizing religious life in the Asian setting, Sanyasa offers an academic program for deepening the understanding of the consecrated form of life in the Church especially in the light of the Scripture, Magisterium, tradition and various theological interpretations with the scope of reviving and empowering the consecrated persons.

Sanyasa SCOPE

Institute of Consecrated Life:

Sanyasa (ICL), is a unique Institute in the Indian Church that offers specialization in the Theology of Consecrated Life. It is an initiative of the Claretian Missionaries to help consecrated women and men to understand more clearly their identity, mission and relevance in the new millennium. It seeks to promote and bring together the efforts of all those who are committed to the re-visioning and renewal of Consecrated life.

Claretians have been in the forefront in promoting renewal of religious life through the Institutes of Consecrated Life in Rome (http://www.claretianum.org), Madrid (http://www.itvr.org) and Manila (http://www.icla.org.ph). Sanyasa is the contribution of the Claretians in India to the same cause as a response to the felt need of the vast number of religious of our country

FOUNDER

The Religious Congregation of the Claretian Missionaries(http://www.claret.org)(Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary: Cordis Mariae Filii or CMF) was founded on July 16, 1849 by St. Anthony Mary Claret in Spain. He was canonized on 7 May, 1950 by Pope Pius XII.

Following the example of their Founder, Claretians commit themselves “to set the world on fire with God’s love”. Being also called “the Servants of the Word”, they undertake any service of the Word which, according to St. Claret, is urgent, timely and effective. Today, there are about 3,000 Claretians serving in 66 countries, engaged in pastoral, social and educational endeavours, aligning closely with the mission of the Church for the overall benefit of humanity.
